When you registered for SharePower, did you know those couple of minutes spent filling out your information would lead to more accessible clean energy for your community?
SharePower was born out of the realization that many people face barriers to adopting solar power — with high upfront costs, lack of roof access, or unsuitable property conditions — and accessing the resulting solar savings. In 2020, we powered online a unique community solar project that allowed subscribers to receive clean energy and solar credit while contributing to the subscriptions of income-qualified neighbors in DC.
See some of our projects below that you may be subscribed to!
Community Solar at Monastery of Our Lady Mt. Carmel in Washington, DC, houses rooftop and ground solar panels, soaking up enough sunlight to help 12 qualified local households in DC save up to $500 per year on their electricity bills — cutting their energy burdens in half. That number quickly grew as we expanded in DC.
Then in 2022, we activated our first Maryland community solar site at the Paddington Square Apartments in Silver Spring. Together, we have 28 local, Empowered households saving $500 per year as well.
Just by signing up for SharePower, your support has been instrumental in driving our mission forward. Thanks to subscribers like you, we can harness the power of community solar to reduce carbon emissions and build stronger, more resilient communities.
Each subscription prevents greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to around 6,517 miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle.
SharePower was created to address all these challenges and provide an easy and inclusive way for people to join and monitor our progress in the clean energy movement. If you’re curious about your own subscription progress, log in to the SharePower dashboard here!
Thank you for choosing to make a difference for your community and the environment with SharePower.
